About Colmeallie Bothy

Searching for your dream rural retreat? You’ve found it. Sneak away to Colmeallie Bothy, a rustic and charming one-bedroom cottage located in Glen Esk, the most easterly of the Angus Glens.

In this single-storey cottage you can delight in picture-perfect views from every room. Inside, many of the property’s 19th-century features remain, such as the characterful ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and deep window sills.

Living

Decorated with original artwork and its own fairy-sized library, the sitting room is a hygge haven. Cosy up next to the woodburning stove with a cuppa, blanket and book – perfect for those chilly days. There’s a separate kitchen, plus a double bedroom and bathroom featuring a spacious walk-in shower.

Outdoors

You’re nestled in nature at Colmeallie: guests love the wilderness on their doorstep. Swap out city sounds for birdsong, including chit-chat from stone chats, chirping from oystercatchers and pip pips from partridges. You might even spot some other iconic Scottish fauna, such as red deer and grouse. As well as open outdoor space beside the bothy, a bounty of walks are available from your doorstep. In better weather, opt for a paddle in the nearby North Esk River.

Location

In Edzell, located seven miles away, stock up on supplies or wander to your choice of idyllic pub. After a day exploring the Cairngorms National Park, you can pick up a well-deserved feast at the local fish and chip shop here, too.

The stunning countryside and cosy features make Colmeallie Bothy the perfect rural retreat in which to coorie in, explore and unwind.

We have really enjoyed out stay in this cosy and comfortable cottage. The views are amazing and so are the birds from the windows. We were very lucky with the weather and have been out walking everyday. Queen's Well and beyond was probably our favourite walk of the week, our dogs were exhausted every evening! Thank you for the lovely flowers, milk and coffee, much appreciated on arrival. We hope to return in the future.
