Take a drive along the most enchanting forest road, winding between towering pines and the beautiful Loch Garten, and you will arrive at Rymore Wood Lodge, set in its own private 20 acres of woodland, surrounded by the RSPB nature reserve, in the heart of the Abernethy Forest. This lodge is a nature lover’s dream, with trees all around that bring birds, red squirrels, badgers, pine marten and deer to the garden, where you can sit and watch them from the warmth of the kitchen.
The lodge has been designed in a traditional and homely style, and has a wonderfully cosy and welcoming Alpine feel throughout. There is a huge farmhouse kitchen with a sweet and very helpful little woodburning stove where you can boil water for your breakfast or afternoon pot of tea. This homely kitchen looks out down the garden and over the wildlife feeding area. Allowing you to observe all of the wildlife visitors right from the breakfast table! Your oven, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and Nespresso machine are here too, with the laundry machines and an extra fridge and freezer tucked away in the utility room.
Through from the kitchen is the large and comfortable sitting room with its big open fire and French windows onto the garden to the side. A perfect place to relax and unwind with family and friends, particularly when the fire crackles away in the autumn and winter months.
Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom with kingsize bed, which looks out through the French windows onto the bird feeding area – the perfect location for morning coffee whilst the wildlife enjoy their breakfast! Next door is a family bath and shower room.
Upstairs is the master bedroom with its kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom. There are two large twin bedrooms upstairs too, both of which have windows looking out over the forest to three sides. There is a family shower room that these two rooms share between them.
All of the bedrooms have got large walk in cupboards; in fact throughout the house you will find all the storage you could possibly need for even the most comprehensively equipped bunch of adventurers! Even the large porch is a perfect size to house everyone’s coats, boots and other outdoor clothing.
The big lawned garden is a fantastic space for kids to play – it’s often used for croquet in the summer, and for rolling snowballs to make snowmen in the winter! Don’t forget to look out for animal footprints in the fresh snow every morning – you may be surprised at who has come for a night-time visit – perhaps some reclusive pine martens or deer?
This is a lodge which truly reflects its surroundings, and in which you will instantly feel at home. Spacious, welcoming and well-equipped, it’s the ideal base from which to explore our area. Make yourself comfortable in the forest!
"Thanks for the excellent customer service and wee gifts we found on arrival. The lodge and location were both fantastic and we had a wonderful few days that were busy yet relaxing! We all enjoyed watching the birds, squirrels and wildlife outside the kitchen window - great for the kids to see so close-up. An excellent break in beautiful surroundings." August 2020
"Our week in Scotland was, as it always is, an amazing break but this time safe to say even more amazing because of both the accommodation and location. The house is fantastic (even with COVID protocols/guidance being in place), plenty of space for everyone and well equipped. The kitchen is a wonderful space, more so with the three large windows overlooking the patio where we saw red squirrels and a whole variety of birds including woodpeckers and crested tits. Even more impressive though was that every night we were visited by a group of badgers (one night three visited at once) and most nights pine martens came along too (we had a family of four on our 2nd night which, for me personally, was the highlight). The wildlife cameras are fantastic, we spent hours at night either glued to the TV watching what was going on outside or sitting by the kitchen windows. We enjoyed exploring the forest around the house and looking out for the wildlife." September 2020
"Loved our 4th stay at Rymore. On the night cameras we had 3 pine marten and 5 badgers! In the day time the peanuts attracted crested tits and red squirrels. Absolutely amazing, we couldnt have asked for more. Rymore was as great as ever, lovely and warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Its always hard to leave but we cant wait to come back next year. " March 2020
"So lovely to be back so soon to our favourite Cairngorms hideaway. Everything we needed and blessed with fine weather. Thanks again. " January 2020
"This is one of our favourite places. The peacefulness is wonderful and the cottage is everything we need. " November 2019
"We had a wonderful stay here at Rymore Wood Lodge. We routinely saw red squirrels in the morning (between 8am and 9am). Along with loads of birds, coal tits, crested tits, chaffinches, great tits, wood pigeons, as well as several birds we couldn't identify. A badger turned up usually around 9pm, but also at 1am and 3am. We saw a pine marten several times as well. We saw a couple of deer down by Loch Garten. We had a great time exploring the area. It's so beautiful we used Rymore as a base to visit several distilleries. A great way to celebrate my 40th. Thanks very much for a fantastic stay! " September 2019
"Lovely stay for us all - only wish we could have stayed longer. The feeders provided endless interest. I counted 22 birds at a single moment of five species. Then the pine marten - wow! " August 2019
"Thank you we really enjoyed our stay in your lovely lodge. We had a wonderful time with great weather and explored the surrounding area, especially the whisky trail and nearby castles. Our run to Loch Garten was amazing, beautiful views, wild animals and the stunning nature! " August 2019
"We have really enjoyed our stay at Rymore. Lovely warm house in beautiful surroundings. Perfect base for visiting attractions and lots of places on the doorstep for walking the dog. Great watching all the wildlife around the house coming to the bird feeders. Weather was great too. " July 2019

"Wonderful week and fantastic weather. enjoyed Rymore wood Lodge, well appointed and plenty of room for 3 generations and the dog. Thanks so much we'll be back. " April 2019
"This was our 3rd stay at Rymore Wood Lodge and it was clean and comfortable as usual. A perfect place to relax in. Each year it seems to get better and better and the addition of the feeder cam enabled us to watch the Pine Marten and Badgers each evening, which was the icing on the cake. The day time wildlife didnt disappoint either with Red Squirrels, Crested tit and 16 Brambling all at one time! Hopefully we'll return for our 4th stay next year! " March 2019
"We had a lovely stay here as a group of friends and would highly recommend this house as a quiet retreat in the Cairngorms. Everything was easy to use and the house was as described! Thanks :)" January 2019
"The location was perfect if you're looking to get away from it all. We loved the birdtables (food for them was provided) and the open fire. The house itself was spotless and had everything you would need for a break." November 2018
"We have loved staying in your secret forest. So much wildlife just sits at each window. The lodge is lovely, spacious and comfortable. Warm and well appointed. The wildlife cameras are an inspired and valued addition. " November 2018
"If you can say a house has emotions then Rymore has. Welcoming, relaxing, warming and peaceful even with 3 children and 4 dogs running around and enjoying the surroundings. Perfect place to stay for a larger group and so well supplied with everything you need. We had the best family holiday ever and returning to Rymore after all our trips out was the icing on the cake. Thank you" October 2018
"Rymore Lodge sits on the middle of a secluded forest in the beautiful Cairngorms. Just a few miles away from the nearest town, it's the perfect place to unwind and explore this beautiful area from. The house has four very comfortable bedrooms (two double, two twin) as well as a large but cosy living room and a large, well equipped kitchen/dining room, with great views onto the garden. There is a terrace with a barbeque. The setting is incredibly peaceful. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the house is very warmly recommended!" September 2018
