Take a drive along the most enchanting forest road, winding between towering pines and the beautiful Loch Garten, and you will arrive at Rymore Wood Lodge, set in its own private 20 acres of woodland, surrounded by the RSPB nature reserve, in the heart of the Abernethy Forest. This lodge is a nature lover’s dream, with trees all around that bring birds, red squirrels, badgers, pine marten and deer to the garden, where you can sit and watch them from the warmth of the kitchen.
The lodge has been designed in a traditional and homely style, and has a wonderfully cosy and welcoming Alpine feel throughout. There is a huge farmhouse kitchen with a sweet and very helpful little woodburning stove where you can boil water for your breakfast or afternoon pot of tea. This homely kitchen looks out down the garden and over the wildlife feeding area. Allowing you to observe all of the wildlife visitors right from the breakfast table! Your oven, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and Nespresso machine are here too, with the laundry machines and an extra fridge and freezer tucked away in the utility room.
Through from the kitchen is the large and comfortable sitting room with its big open fire and French windows onto the garden to the side. A perfect place to relax and unwind with family and friends, particularly when the fire crackles away in the autumn and winter months.
Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom with kingsize bed, which looks out through the French windows onto the bird feeding area – the perfect location for morning coffee whilst the wildlife enjoy their breakfast! Next door is a family bath and shower room.
Upstairs is the master bedroom with its kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom. There are two large twin bedrooms upstairs too, both of which have windows looking out over the forest to three sides. There is a family shower room that these two rooms share between them.
All of the bedrooms have got large walk in cupboards; in fact throughout the house you will find all the storage you could possibly need for even the most comprehensively equipped bunch of adventurers! Even the large porch is a perfect size to house everyone’s coats, boots and other outdoor clothing.
The big lawned garden is a fantastic space for kids to play – it’s often used for croquet in the summer, and for rolling snowballs to make snowmen in the winter! Don’t forget to look out for animal footprints in the fresh snow every morning – you may be surprised at who has come for a night-time visit – perhaps some reclusive pine martens or deer?
This is a lodge which truly reflects its surroundings, and in which you will instantly feel at home. Spacious, welcoming and well-equipped, it’s the ideal base from which to explore our area. Make yourself comfortable in the forest!
"Great holiday home in the perfect location. Have had a very relaxing week to recharge and refresh. Enjoyed the video of the pine marten, badger et al. The red squirrel even showed up on the last day. Felt at home straight away and everything we needed was provided, I’m sure we will be back next year (if not before). " January 2022
"Our 6th visit and just as great as always. Spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. Brilliant wildlife including pine marten and badgers each night and red squirrels in the morning. A wonderful place to stay, it's so peaceful. Wish we could stay longer. " March 2022
"Thanks for the excellent customer service and wee gifts we found on arrival. The lodge and location were both fantastic and we had a wonderful few days that were busy yet relaxing! We all enjoyed watching the birds, squirrels and wildlife outside the kitchen window - great for the kids to see so close-up. An excellent break in beautiful surroundings." August 2020
"We had a fantastic stay even if a bit rainy, there was only two of us but the house felt so comfortable straight away. We know the area well and I had purposely chosen Rymore for its position as I wanted to see some wildlife and boy it didn’t disappoint, I was glued to outside with my camera and delighted to see pine Martin, badger, deer, the red squirrels, a multitude of birds from sparrow hawk to woodpecker and a glimpse of the elusive cuckoo ... if only an osprey or capercaillie had appeared to make my day haha. The house had everything we needed and more, thanks for the goodies left for our arrival, we would love to return though I have my eyes on a couple of your other properties as well." May 2021
"Firstly, we would like to emphasise that we loved our stay at the lodge. The peace was something to behold; opening the door with the sound of humanity totally absent as background noise was something very special. We are wildlife lovers and the lodge certainly fulfilled this passion with regular visits from pine maten(s), badgers, red squirrel, roe deer along with a large variety of birdlife. The wildlife cameras were a real bonus for us, enabling us to view the wildlife that we may have otherwise missed, it really was superb to be able to enjoy the wealth of wildlife the surrounding forest had to offer without having to leave the lodge. "Rymore Wood Lodge is a wildlife lovers dream! Having the squirrel and bird feeders in the garden was really nice and getting to see the badgers and pine marten each night was amazing. The house is in the middle of the forest and you have walks right on your doorstep. We often walked for hours without seeing another soul. Hand feeding the birds and Loch Garten was a real highlight. The house was spacious but cosy, well equipped and perfect for large families or groups. We have never been to such a well equipped holiday cottage before. We could have easily stayed for 2 weeks without getting bored as there is so much to do locally but it is just as easy to sit back and enjoy the house. We will definitely return, this is now our favourite holiday house. I would also like to say how impressed we were with everyone we had contact with at Seasgair. The help, flexibility and friendliness was second to none." November 2020
"We were truly delighted with our experience at Rymore Wood Lodge. The lodge has so much character surrounded by the forest, which is very unique. It also feels incredibly homely and has everything one would need, both as an adult, and as a child. Our three year old daughter was overwhelmed by Rymore, as we were, with the visible presence of wildlife surrounding the lodge. Throughout our stay we were blessed to see Pine Marten, Badger, Red Squirrel and a host of rare birds, fed by the seed kindly provided." December 2021
"We had a fanstastic time again at Rymore Wood Lodge. We were so lucky to have snow and enjoy the beautiful scenery." December 2021
