LODGE FLOORPLAN

If you were to imagine the quintessential, luxury Cairngorms self-catering holiday, chances are you would imagine staying somewhere like The Wilds. This 17-sleeper chalet-style lodge has been designed with beautifully stylish interiors that perfectly reflect its woodland surroundings, and fitted out with all the extras that we know you’ll love. Located at the edge of Inshriach Forest, Insh Marshes RSPB Reserve and the Badenoch Way The Wilds provides some of the best walking and biking routes in the area without you having to even move your car!

Fancy enjoying your morning coffee with red squirrels and Scottish wild birds? The Wilds is set in a mature 2 ½ acre garden that is a nature watches haven, as well as a child’s idea of garden perfection with a wooden play frame and lots and lots of trees, a little stream and a long, smooth hill (just perfect for sledging). The adults have certainly been well-catered for too, with a cedar-clad 8-person hot tub, an outdoor eating area and a fire pit - all the ingredients for a relaxing evening after a day spent exploring the Cairngorms.

Inside, the whole house has a warm and contemporary Alpine-feel, with wood and natural materials everywhere you look, such as the big statement stone fireplace in the living and dining room. It’s the perfect place to unwind and relax, with a cosy wood burning stove and three comfy sofas to sink into. There’s a double height ceiling, french windows that look out the front of the house to the garden and a long dining table.

It leads into a fabulous kitchen which you’ll love whether you’re cooking or grazing. There is a large island and bar stools, as well as a gas range, plentiful amounts of fridge and freezer storage, dishwasher, double oven and lots of wine rack space. The kitchen leads through to a big sun lounge with plenty of seating - a great place to enjoy breakfast and plan what you’ll get up to each day.

There are four bedrooms on the ground floor. The first is a double with a superking bed (which could also be converted to twins), ensuite shower room and dressing table. The second is another superking/twin room, and then there is a quad room with custom-made full-size bunks, each of which has its own dressing table and storage area. Lastly there is a family room featuring a superking-size bed, with custom-made full size bunks around the corner; it also has its own en-suite shower room. There is also a large luxury bathroom on the ground floor with bathtub and rain shower.

You have a really useful and spacious utility room, with washer, dryer, sink, hanging space, pulley and lots of space for storing and drying boots and other outdoor wear. The clever owners have thoughtfully designed this lodge with features like this that just make days on holiday run that little bit more smoothly and comfortably. So they have also ensured that the entrance hallway is spacious and well-equipped enough for everyone to get ready, with benches for putting on boots and enough hanging space near the front door for everyone’s coats.

Upstairs is a bedroom with king-size bed, which also has an extra single bed in its own little alcove - ideal for a child who prefers to sleep somewhere with parents close by. It also has its own very stylish en-suite shower room with a rain shower. Up another different staircase at the other end of the lodge, there is a snug area with another TV and DVD (to supplement the TV and DVD in the main living room). This leads into a double en-suite bedroom with superking/twin bed and shower room.
There are plenty of extra features to keep everyone happy, such as a table tennis table in the double garage, and a large kennel with a run, should your dog want a little space of their own. They are of course more than welcome in the house too!

You would be forgiven for thinking that the location of a lodge called The Wilds might be just that. Even though you will feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, you are really convenient for both Aviemore (15 minutes away) and Kingussie (under 10 minutes away). Close by and ready to be explored is the Spey Distillery (which runs fascinating tours); Insh Marshes - a peaceful haven for wildlife and location of some wonderful walks, and Ruthven Barracks, a site run by Historic Scotland and well worth a visit, particularly if you take an interest in Jacobite history. There are a number of walking routes that can be accessed only metres away from the drive of the lodge - for a full list of these see Walk Highlands.

Only 5 minutes drive from the lodge is the outdoor playground of Loch Insh - a watersports centre where you can sail, windsurf, Canadian canoe, kayak...as well as enjoy land based sports such as archery and dry slope skiing. It also has a large restaurant and bar. The terrace and beach is the locals’ favourite place to spend summer evenings soaking up the sun and holiday atmosphere - the sunsets across the loch from the beach in summer are simply beautiful.

Please note this is a family friendly lodge.

"Awesome house! Lovely area. Shame we have to go back to reality and leave. Make sure to walk the path behind the house, some great views. " February 2022

"What a great Highland break, we loved it. Plenty to do for all ages 2-73 years old, all had a great week. So much time spent in the hot tub and at Cairngorm sledging - wow! Plenty of space in the lodge for everyone. Many thanks for all your hard work. " February 2022

"What a fantastic place to celebrate turning 40 with the family! 7 adults, 7 children and 2 dogs were in heaven here. The garden is amazing for bird watching, BBQ'ing, playing hide and seek and of course hot tubbing! See you in September! " February 2020

"Another great holiday spent at the Wilds! Lodge is the perfect place for a large family gathering! Particularly love the outside space and extensive garden great for children to explore. Amazing wildlife including pine marten spotted at night. Lots of beautiful walks from the door enjoyed by all. Beautiful lodge, clean and spacious. Looking forward to our next holiday here’" August 2021

"We had the most amazing time at The Wilds. The house is absolutely stunning, nothing like anywhere I’ve stayed before. It is so spacious, plenty of room for us and the dogs. For dogs the outdoor space is ideal, plenty of space to explore. The amenities are fantastic, especially the outdoor hot tub and games room! The location is perfect for exploring. During our stay we went to Loch Insh water sports centre and did canoeing and kayaking. We also went quad biking near Aviemore. You could easily spend a week or longer there as there’s so much to see and do. We wanted to climb a Munro but it was too foggy. I would 100% recommend and I’m already looking for an excuse to book again!" August 2021

"Myself and my family had an fantastic time at your beautiful house. Everything was perfect. Plenty of space for everyone to enjoy their own time or come together in the family areas. The hot tub, games room and fire pit were a big hit. We loved the outdoor areas and garden and felt very secluded. So pleased we choose The Wilds!! We will definitely be back. We visited Landmark Adventure Park, excellent for kids and tried out paddle boarding at Loch Insh a few miles away. We had great fun! " June 2021

"We had a wonderful week at The Wilds. It is probably the best house we’ve stayed in in the Cairngorms and we’ve been coming every year for the last 10 years! Bonus too that it’s dog friendly - our spaniel loved it too. The area is fantastic, with so much to do, and we enjoyed many walks, water sports and other outdoor activities. The house was a lovely retreat to come back to each night, and the outside area with BBQ, fire pit and hot tub was well used! We ordered meals from Speyside Kitchen which were fantastic, and saved us cooking. We hope to return soon, although sadly I see the house is booked up for months!" July 2021

"We had an awesome time at THE WILDS a long overdue family get together and had so much fun. The lodge was so nice and we all enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the lodge and watching the red squirrel every morning. The hot tub was well used even part of the losing teams forfeit from the mini Highland games that we took part in at IN YOUR ELEMENT at Rothiemurchus. We used the fire pit to toast our marshmallows and had a few games of table tennis. BBQ on Saturday night was great too. We went for a long walk on Sunday with a wonderful view of the loch. We would certainly recommend to anyone and will definitely like to return. " November 2021

"We had a wonderful holiday. It went by so fast. The lodge was beautiful and we enjoyed every night, having dinner, drinking wine, playing games. We were so lucky with the weather. Just one bad day out of the 7. The rest of the time it was mild and we could enjoy the fire pit and the hot tub. At first we thought we were going to be too remote. We soon realised that we were, in fact, perfectly situated for all the activities that we had booked. Loch Insh watersports. The highland wildlife park. Quad biking and Landmark to name a few. The Post Office cafe was a little gem. The app is a brilliant tool and helped us a lot with reference etc. From our family to you and yours, thank you. We have some great memories to cherish now. We fell in love with Scotland even more. " October 2021
